7 video formats that connect (and sell) for businesses and personal brands

MHMeny Herrera · MenyTips·October 30, 2026·7 min read

POV, selfie, voice over, before and after and more: which format to use for each goal and how to film it without a production crew.

One of the most common mistakes we see is filming the same type of video every time. The audience gets used to it, the algorithm stops pushing and the account stalls. The fix is not posting more, it is changing the format based on what you want to achieve.

Here are seven formats that work for almost any niche, from a clinic to a personal trainer or a tattoo studio.

1. Talking to camera

You, looking into the lens, saying something useful in under 40 seconds. It builds the most trust because people see your face and hear your voice. Ideal for authority.

2. POV

You film from your customer’s point of view: “POV: you walk into your first appointment at the clinic.” It makes people picture themselves living the experience. Great for reach and for showing your service without sounding like an ad.

3. Voice over

Footage of your day or your work with your voice narrating on top. Perfect if you are not comfortable on camera: the message still lands and the video looks more produced.

4. Walking selfie

Walking, phone in hand, telling something as if it were a voice note. It feels close and spontaneous, and it works very well for connection.

5. Before and after

The fastest format to prove results: a transformation, a space, a process. Use it for sales, always with the client’s permission and without exaggerating.

6. Reply to a comment

You take a real question from your audience and answer it on video. It gives you endless ideas and shows you listen. Comments turn into new content.

7. Customer testimonial

Your client telling their experience in their own words. No sales copy convinces like someone who already trusted you.

How to choose the right format

  • For reach: POV, trends and fast cuts.
  • For connection: walking selfie, behind the scenes and storytelling.
  • For authority: talking to camera, tutorials and replying to comments.
  • For sales: before and after, product demos and testimonials.

The rule we use with our clients: every week, at least one video for each goal. That way the account grows, connects and sells at the same time.
